Opus Spicatum
Opus spicatum is a pavement technique used in antiquity in which uniform rectangular terracotta pieces are arranged in an interlocking V-pattern analogous to a modern herringbone design. The name is derived from the Latin word for work or workmanship (opus) and something being spiked (spicatum).
